Allergies? Spring Cleaning Tips from Angie's List

Wash your bedding weekly: Toss your sheets in water that's at least 130 degrees and place dust mite covers on mattresses and pillows.

Choose a solid surface: Replace carpet with a solid surface such as hardwood - this can eliminate 90 percent of dust mites. If you must have carpet, get low pile - not shag.

Clean up the mold: Mold is caused by moisture and can hide out in your bathroom, kitchen and basement. To avoid mold buildup, keep things dry as possible and fix leaky plumbing. Consider paint or tile instead of wallpaper. Read More

    April Organizing Pep Talk
    Cheerleader card

For many people, lack of time is the greatest obstacle when trying to get -and stay -organized. How you manage your time can make or break the best organizing plan.

A place for everything only works if you put the things back each time they are used. Having easy access to frequently used items is one thing. Having them stacked in piles or stuffed into drawers or bookcases is another.

I've said this before-being organized is on-going. Like laundry, it is a constant in life. It is never completely DONE. Don't give up if you find that you are have to repeat some organizing tasks, in fact, expect it. If you don't let it pile up until the work is overwhelming, you will find that your "maintenance" is quicker and done less frequently.

So your taxes are filed and you should feel relieved, but you don't. Your filing system and home office space is a nightmare. You could use some help, but are hesitant or even a little embarrassed about it. Don't be! Discreet help is just a phone call away. I've organized medical offices, elderly parents' homes, craft rooms, garages and more. I've seen what a difference it can make by reducing the stress of disorganization. Periodic maintenance calls help keep the system on track.

Are you ready to make a clean sweep this spring and get clutter under control? Your customized system for Chaos Control is waiting. Let's get started! Call 703-689-9886 now to set up your appointment for organization and peace of mind.

    Mission:Man Cave
    Man Cave with Pool Table

The Mission: turn a basement containing a big screen TV, pool table and sports collectibles into a stylish Man Cave in one day. This makeover was given as a gift and although the homeowner knew the transformation was taking place, he wanted to be totally surprised by the reveal. Care was taken to allow space for his growing collection to expand and suggested paint samples were provided to complete the look. The reaction- complete surprise and amazement.

Creating a Home for the Homeless
    Shelter House Logo

In the spirit of HGTV's Deserving Design and ABC's Extreme Makeover, National Capital Area IRIS Redesigners recently finished the first of three apartment makeovers for Shelter House in Falls Church. Adopting a green design approach, furnishings were gathered from craigslist and Freecycle that might otherwise end in landfills and were restored and repainted as needed. Paint, materials and funding were donated by Jerry's Paints in Springfield, Fischer Hardware in Springfield, American Foam Center in Merrifield, and Coverage, Inc.-The Insurance Specialists in Chantilly. The generous donation of storage units from 1-800-Pack Rats allowed the accumulation of needed items and supplies for the project. Colors and accessories were chosen to compliment the design and create a secure, warm and homelike feel to the space.

For health reasons, items like bedding, linens and kitchen equipment must be new so funding is still needed to complete the next two apartments. To find out how to help, please contact me for further information. To learn more about Shelter House, please go to their web site
